The City of Sacramento, California (City) requests proposals for professional consulting
services to develop a strategic plan which will include evaluating the feasibility of constructing
and operating a regional drivers training facility. Long range planning is needed to
coordinate the efforts of partners, optimize efficiency of operations and establish a
sustainable funding source.
The City and County of Sacramento (County) currently operate and jointly run the
Sacramento Regional Drivers Training Facility (SRDTF) on leased land at Mather Park.
Driver training is provided to approximately 2500 sheriff department employees, 800 City
police officers, 600 City firefighters and 3000 non-sworn City employees.
The facility is a re-use of an aircraft maintenance pad. The amount of driver training that can
be offered is restricted by space which is limited to 10 useable acres at the current facility.
Some skills cannot be effectively taught at the current location. There is also interest in
expanding services by operating as an enterprise offering training to other public and private
entities.
