The DEP needs to replace its Air Pollution/Radiation Data Acquisition and Early Warning System. The existing system has been in operation since 1991 and is jointly operated by
the Bureau of Air Monitoring (BAM) and the Bureau of Nuclear Engineering (BNE). The system was designed to retrieve air and radiation data once every minute from 750
individual sensors, located at 150 different sites throughout the State. The primary mode of data transmission is via leased phone lines. The system software provides for data
retrieval, automatic error checking, some initial data validation, several standard report formats (both tabular and graphic), ad hoc report generation, data editing and both local and remote alarm generation. The system can be accessed directly through dedicated terminals or remotely via dial-in modems.
