Academic Building Renovations

As part of the Bioscience Connecticut initiative, UCHC plans to renovate, and construct
an addition to, the existing Academic Building. This building supports both the School
of Medicine and the School of Dental Medicine. The project will include replacement of
major MEP systems, the renovation of approximately 22,000 square feet of existing
space, the demolition of an existing temporary structure (Bldg. 20), and the construction
of approximately 27,000 square feet of new lab, academic, and support space.
The goal of this project is to create a state of the art academic facility that
accommodates the anticipated growth, academic initiatives, instructive strategies,
accreditation criteria, and room capacity and utilization goals of the UCHC.
The facility is anticipated to incorporate programmatic elements such asx a 200 seat flat
floor studio-based learning center, small and medium sized multidisciplinary learning
spaces, simulation rooms, gross anatomy lab, informal gathering and study spaces, and
a learning center with tutoring, resource, and testing areas. Modifications to two
existing sloped, fixed seat lecture halls are to be examined for inclusion in the project.
These modifications may include the exterior walls of these lecture halls and the main
entry area to the Academic Building.
