The current Office Manager for ASTD-LA has held this position for 18 years. As such, she is the glue
of the Chapter and embodies the organizational memory of ASTD-LA. Replacing that glue and
memory will be challenging, regardless of the capabilities or experience of the Association
Management Company.
The Association Management role has changed and continues to evolve. As a Chapter, we are
increasingly looking for opportunities to automate routine tasks, to increase our chapter effectiveness
and to enable the Office Manager to be the human touch to our members. Our long-term goal is to
implement an automated Chapter Management System. This approach won't necessarily reduce the
number of hours required for the Office Manager, but will shift the tasks required and perhaps
expertise to fulfill the role. The human element and "face to the chapter" will continue to be a critical
component that we must retain.
For 2008, we foresee that the position (described below) will require 20 hours per week, or Full
Time Equivalent (FTE). This is consistent with the hours that our Office Manager is spending
currently.
