We invite visual art teachers to apply for an Art Renewal for Teachers (ART) Award for
Summer 2008. This will be the ninth year of the program, which to date has supported 82 visual
art teachers from Massachusetts and Connecticut.
The purpose of the ART Award is to provide visual artists who are teachers with the opportunity
to spend a summer rejuvenating themselves as artists. In addition, we seek to encourage visual
art teachers to integrate the visual arts across the curriculum.
Grants of up to $5,000 are available, on a competitive basis, to all visual artists who teach in
K-12 schools in the Massachusetts counties of Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire,
Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Worcester, and the Connecticut counties of Litchfield and
Hartford. In order to be eligible, an applicant must:
Have completed four years or more of teaching the visual arts;
Plan to continue as a visual arts teacher in the 2008-2009 school year in an eligible school.
