SfNs current systems for managing member data consist of a member database and certain web applications for processing member applications and fees and export of member data for committee selection, annual meeting registration and abstract submission and sessioning. The system does not integrate directly with other systems and is limited in capabilities such as reporting or gathering data on member activities, and would be cumbersome for providing new capabilities such as web site personalization and data mining on member demographics, interests and program/committee involvement.

The implementation of our new Abstract system and necessary updates to our member database have brought attention to inefficiencies in some of our processes related to member data, as well as the need for improved tools for gathering, mining, reporting and better using member data internally. These issues are reasons that SfN has discussed the possibility of implementing an Association Management System (AMS) or at least better tools for member data and processes, such as Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.

SfN wants to conduct a needs analysis that will review SfN processes and systems and document specific needs areas and requirements for a specific AMS / CRM implementation.

The deliverable(s) from this project are expected to include:
1.An overview of SfNs needs for supporting member-related processes,
2.A review of best practices and industry-leading solutions available,
3.Potential pitfalls and traps that SfN should seek to avoid
4.Recommendations for a solution that best fits SfNs specific needs,
5.Alternatives to consider, and
6.Expected costs, benefits, timeline and staging of implementing an AMS or alternative solution.
Reviews and recommendations should focus on SfNs processes and needs and the fit of various solutions and alternatives to meet those needs. The final deliverable(s) should be suitable for presentation as a business case analysis for internal consideration of funding for an AMS or alternate solution.
