AGM Diversity Fellowship Program

United States
Non-Profit
RFP

Founded in 1969, AGM is the regional association of grant makers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. AGM exists to help these foundations and corporations achieve even greater levels of effectiveness, skill and knowledge. AGM programs educate, update, challenge and inform grant makers. Although our member organizations represent many distinct values and funding priorities, they share a common purpose: to shape a better future for the residents of our region.

As our region experiences rapid demographic change, so does the face of community leaders and organizations with which funders interact. Our members recognition of the value of diverse staffing is increasing, yet racial and ethnic diversity at foundations and corporate giving programs is low respective to the regions populations and especially communities served. Further, the prevalence of informal networks that are often used in the hiring process frequently result in a less than representative pool of candidates for foundation jobs.

As part of ongoing efforts to promote and advance effective philanthropy, AGM established the Diversity Fellowship Program in 2006 to increase the number and proportion of people of color as staffand executivesin the field of philanthropy. Each year four to six candidates are selected from a national search and over the course of a comprehensive year are placed at host sites where they act as funder staff, while also completing a curriculum that offers the knowledge, skills, experiences and relationships to prepare them for a long-term career in philanthropy.

In this third and final year of the program AGM seeks to hire a consultant to document the program process, lessons learned, and best practices for the field. This final written report will be important for local and national funders of the program, as well as it will be used as the program is replicated in other regions.

Interested consultants should refer to the timeline and details listed below. Particular preference will be given to consultants who have prior experience in some or all of the following areas: evaluating fellowship programs, evaluating diversity work, working with foundations, or having foundation relationships.
