SCOPE OF WORK AND GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR:
PURITAN BENNETT COVIDIEN 980 MECHANICAL VENTILATORS

1. Background

The Gulf Coast Veterans Healthcare System (GCVHCS) Respiratory Therapy Department has eight Puritan Bennett 840 ventilators whose technology is 18 years old. These eight ventilators were manufactured in 2006 and will reach their end-of-service life on December 31, 2018. The current units will be used as trade-ins towards the purchase of eight Puritan Bennett 980 ventilators.

2. Specifications

The GCVHCS requires eight Puritan Bennett 980 ventilators with the following salient characteristics:

Modes of ventilation and breath types: Assist Control, Spontaneous, Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation, BiLevel, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure
Breath types: Volume Control, Pressure Control, Volume Control Plus
Spontaneous breath types: Pressure Support, Volume Support, Non-Invasive Ventilation, Tube Compensation, software capable of assisting with liberation of difficult to wean patients
Dedicated hospital monitoring and alarms including apnea ventilation, occlusion alarm, automatic patient detection, automatic decibel escalation of continuous alarm announcement
Pressure and flow breath triggering options
N100 rated expiratory filter
Onboard air compressor
Oxygen percentage measurement and calibration
Inspiratory and expiratory filter efficiency > 99%
Method to identify, signal, and make automatic adjustments for ineffective breath triggering, cycling asynchronies, and auto-triggering
Minimum 72 hours trending data
Graphic displays including loops, alarm history and numeric parameters with freeze function, scroll back, and customizable presets
Integrated respiratory mechanics including weaning parameters, respiratory maneuvers, spontaneous rapid shallow breathing index, negative inspiratory force, leak identification, resistance, and compliance
Ability to continue to deliver support in the event of certain system failures
Swappable batteries equaling two hours of ventilation in the event of power failure

Services needed:
Turnkey installation of ventilators
Training for clinical staff and physicians
Minimum 3 year warranty
