Event Profile: The ISES Minnesota Star Awards began in 2004 as a way to provide
event professionals in Minnesota an opportunity to gain recognition for the events
they create, plan, manage, and execute each year. The event features an Awards Gala
and After Party that ideally provide a showcase format for industry trends,
innovative production and over‐the‐top dcor.
2009 Event Description: The 2009 Awards Gala will feature a multimedia
presentation on the United HealthGroup Stage. The Awards Gala will require a stage
set, video design and production, audio production and entertainment.
The committee has defined the After Party as Surreality‐ behind closed eyes. Staged
in the blackbox space of the Cargill Stage, the design of the After Party will take
guests on a journey through nine dreams. Each dreamscape will be a designed space
serving unique event functions. The nine areas include:
Fantasy This space will make up the entrance to the dreamscape. It is important
that floor props are limited to facilitate traffic flow to the other areas.
Fairytale This area will feature food service components. The design should be
whimsical.
Psychosis This area of the dreamscape should present an askew environment that
features food service components.
Black & White This area should be a representation of dreams without color. A
unique beverage component should be included into the design of this area.
Imagination The design for this area should create a feeling of aspiration or ideas.
The area will include a beverage component.
Futuristic This area will encompass the bar. With a modernist feel the area should
create a bar/lounge environment.
Nightmare Elements in this area should create the feel of the darkest part of
dreams. The area should incorporate a food service component.
Sensual This area should suggest the sexy side of dreams. As part of this
dreamscape an appropriate food service option should be included.
Dance Floor This area should contain the stage and dance floor. To facilitate traffic
flow the committee would like to see unique staging options for the performers. One
option the committee would like to consider is an elevated stage with the dance
floor below.
The goal with each area is to define the spaces with unique partition treatments. The
committee has designed a space that is free‐flowing, but wants to maintain each of
the nine areas as its own designed space.
