The Nellie Mae Education Foundation is seeking a research team to study the funding issues at a small sample of student-centered secondary schools in the United States. As we implement our strategic direction, which focuses on promoting student-centered learning1 as a way to dramatically increase the educational achievement and attainment of secondary students and close achievement gaps, the Foundation is committed to understanding the real costs of student-centered education, the revenue sources available, and how schools can shift to a more student-centered model within current budget realities. As we work with states and districts to transform schooling so that all New England students, especially those who are currently underserved, are able to obtain a post-secondary degree or credential, we recognize that funding challenges can be a roadblock to large-scale change.
