The State is seeking bids for the removal and proper disposal of approximately 500 derelict pilings. The pilings are the remains of abandoned piers; they extend farther from shore than the existing piers in the area, and are a hazard to boaters. Many of these pilings are not visible at high tide, and could be hit by unsuspecting boaters. Pilings that are closer than 150’ to shore typically are in too shallow water to be a hazard or are surrounded by other piers, and will not be removed unless there are special circumstances. No dredging or filling will be performed to remove these pilings.
