The unrestricted $7,000 fellowships are intended to fund an artist's vision or voice, regardless of the level of his or her artistic development. NYFA is committed to supporting artists from diverse cultural backgrounds at any stage of their professional career.

In the 2015 cycle, grants will be awarded in the categories of Fiction, Folk/Traditional Arts, Interdisciplinary Arts, Painting (including the Basil H. Alkazzi Award for Excellence in Painting), and Video/Film.

(In the 2016 cycle, grants will be awarded in Architecture/Environmental, Structures/Design, Choreography, Music/Sound, Photography, and Playwriting/Screenwriting.)

Applicants must be 25 years of age or older and must be a resident of New York State and/or one of the Indian Nations located in New York State for at least two years prior to February 10, 2014.
